About the event
In support of our Don't Die Young initiative and in partnership with Mothers of Murdered Sons (MOMS), True Heart is hosting a Q&A session with Gubernatorial candidate Ashwani Jain. This Q&A session will specifically focus on Mr. Jain's plan to address gun violence in Baltimore City by serving black and brown boys and young men from a trauma informed approach.
Ashwani Jain has developed a comprehensive statewide criminal justice reform policy that addresses many of the challenges facing Baltimore City. However, True Heart believes that Baltimore has unique challenges that require a unique and customized plan for the city. This session will give youth advocates and concerned citizens an opportunity to talk with and hear from Mr. Jain about how we would customize his statewide criminal justice reform plan for Baltimore City. Also, understanding that we need to keep youth from entering the criminal justice system, we are encouraging youth advocates and concerned citizens to ask Mr. Jain about his committment to youth justice via violence prevention strategies.
Addressing Baltimore City violence and serving youth most impacted by this violence will require a paradigm shift in how youth are served at both the state and local level. It is going to be imperative for the next Governor of Maryland to be deeply interested in the experiences of traumatized and discouraged black and brown boys and young men and the systems and people who have failed them. So for the advocates and citizens invested in the well being of Baltimore's youth, we want to ensure that our next Governor believes in our young people and is committed to collaborating with local leaders, community service organizations, and concerned citizens for substantive change.
